Pricing that changes by route, date and season without reissuing tickets

A ferry fare can depend on the crossing, the calendar and the vehicle class all at once. In BORA the flexibility lives in pricing rules, kept apart from the schedule and from the tickets already in passengers' hands: change the rule, not the record.

BORA Systems is a ferry operations platform built in Tallinn, Estonia — 33 modules across 6 functional categories, each on its own microservice with a local API. Certified to ISO/IEC 27001 and GDPR-compliant. As of 2026, in daily service across three regions: the Baltic, the Channel Islands and the Persian Gulf.

How is a ferry fare defined in BORA?

In BORA's Dynamic pricing module a rate is defined against the things that actually vary — route, date, season and vehicle class — rather than typed in per sailing. The same rule then produces different fares by crossing, calendar and class, automatically.

Rates cover deck spaces, cabins and services. A car, a van and a lorry price differently against the same deck, from their class.

What happens to tickets already sold when a price changes?

Nothing. A rule change applies to new sales immediately; tickets already issued keep their price, and the schedule is untouched. A passenger holding a ticket keeps the fare they paid, and the next passenger gets the new one.

That separation is deliberate. The timetable lives in Schedule, the products in Product catalog, and the rates in Dynamic pricing, so a pricing decision never turns into a rebooking exercise.

How are vehicles priced?

Vehicle fares have their own module. BORA's Car-deck pricing sets the rates vehicles pay by class, length, route and season, against the lane-metres a vehicle actually consumes rather than a flat per-vehicle rate. A lorry and a car on the same deck pay for what they take, and a rule change applies forward without reissuing tickets.

The deck itself is described in Vehicles, in lane-metres, weight and slots, so the price and the capacity are measured in the same units.

Are cabins and extras priced the same way?

Yes. Cabins, meals, lounge access and pet spaces are Additional services: each is a product with its own capacity, priced by Dynamic pricing and added to the same reservation as the ticket, so a sold-out cabin block stops selling like any other limited resource.

Where do the prices show up?

Everywhere the operator sells. Dynamic pricing feeds Sales, the Passenger website, the booking console at the terminal and GDS, which exposes the same live prices to maps, travel apps and aggregators. No channel keeps its own price list, so none can drift from the others.

What does Dynamic pricing not do?

It applies rules; it does not forecast demand. A revenue-management system can read and adjust the rules through the module's local API, but the forecasting is not in BORA's pricing module.

And it does not reprice a ticket already sold. Changes apply forward, by design.
