BORA Systems is a ferry operations platform built in Tallinn, Estonia — 33 modules across 6 functional categories, each on its own microservice with a local API. Certified to ISO/IEC 27001 and GDPR-compliant. As of 2026, in daily service across three regions: the Baltic, the Channel Islands and the Persian Gulf.
What does it do?
The booking console is the terminal-side face of the Sales module. A passenger walks up, finds the sailing they want, pays, and receives a ticket — with no staff at the counter and no separate system to reconcile afterwards.
Because it writes into the same ledger as every other channel, a ticket bought at the console is the same object as one bought online: valid at the same ramp, refundable on the same terms, counted in the same manifest.
How does it work?
Search
The passenger picks a route, date and passenger or vehicle type, and sees live availability drawn from the Inventory module.
Pay
Card, contactless or a supported wallet. The payment settles into the same ledger as every other sale.
Collect
A printed or scannable ticket is issued on the spot, valid immediately at the ramp validator.
What does it connect to?
Booking console runs on standard kiosk hardware — a touch display, a card terminal and a ticket printer — not proprietary devices.
On the software side it reads availability from Inventory, prices from Dynamic pricing, and writes sales into the same ledger as Sales and Payment gateway.
What are its limits?
What it deliberately does not do:
- Booking console does not replace a staffed desk for complex rebookings — it handles standard sales, not every edge case an agent can.
- Booking console does not store card data locally; payment is handled by the connected terminal under the operator's PCI scope.
Frequently asked questions
Does it work if the terminal loses its connection?
Sales that are already in progress complete on the terminal and reconcile when the link returns; new lookups need the connection back.
What hardware does it need?
A standard touch display, a card terminal and a ticket printer. No proprietary devices.
Is a console ticket different from an online one?
No. It writes into the same ledger, so it is valid at the same ramp and counted in the same manifest.
