What does it do?
The ramp validator is the handheld the crew holds at the point of boarding. It scans a ticket or pass, confirms the boarding right, and records the boarding — the raw material of the departure manifest.
Ramp validator is built to work in the one place a network is least reliable: steel, water, and a crowd all boarding in the same ten minutes. Validation happens on the device; the record catches up to the system afterwards.
How does it work?
Scan
The handheld scans each ticket or pass and confirms the boarding right on the spot.
Offline
Validation runs entirely on the device. A dead connection at the ramp does not stop the queue.
Reconcile
When the link returns, every scan reconciles into the system and into the manifest.
What does it connect to?
Ramp validator feeds boardings into Access control, which produces the departure manifest and carries the ISPS obligations.
Ramp validator runs on standard rugged handheld terminals, not proprietary scanners.
What are its limits?
What it deliberately does not do:
- Ramp validator validates a boarding right, not an identity — it is not an ID check or a biometric device.
- Ramp validator does not resolve a disputed ticket at the ramp; it flags the problem for a person to handle off the queue.

Yes. Validation runs on the device and reconciles later — a dead link at the ramp does not stop boarding.
What does it produce?
Each scan is a boarding, and the sum of boardings is the departure manifest, produced by Access control.
Is it an identity check?
No. It validates the boarding right presented, not the identity behind it.
