What does it do?
The vehicle gate reads a vehicle as it arrives, checks it against its booking, measures it, assigns it to a deck that can take it, and opens the lane. What used to need a person with a clipboard at the barrier happens in the time it takes the driver to slow down.
The measurement feeds straight back into capacity: the deck plan the crew works from reflects what has actually driven aboard, not what was booked in the abstract.
How does it work?
Read
Cameras read the plate and match it to the booking, or take a walk-up and price it on the spot.
Measure
The vehicle is measured against the deck limits described in Inventory, so an oversize vehicle is caught at the gate, not on the ramp.
Assign
It is assigned to a deck that can take it, and the correct lane opens — no marshal directing traffic at the barrier.
What does it connect to?
Vehicle gate reads deck and weight limits from Inventory and bookings from Sales, and writes the measured vehicle back so capacity reflects reality.
Vehicle gate runs on standard ANPR cameras and barrier hardware, integrated rather than replaced.
What are its limits?
What it deliberately does not do:
- Vehicle gate does not weigh hazardous or special cargo to regulatory certification — it measures for deck assignment, not for a legal weighbridge certificate.
- Vehicle gate does not override an operator's manual hold: a vehicle flagged for inspection still stops for a person.
Frequently asked questions
Does it need number-plate recognition to work?
It uses ANPR where available to match bookings automatically, but a vehicle can also be handled as a walk-up and priced at the gate.
What if a vehicle is bigger than its booking?
The gate measures against the deck limits and catches the mismatch there, rather than discovering it on the ramp.
Can staff still intervene?
Yes. A vehicle flagged for inspection or held manually stops for a person; the gate automates the standard case, not every case.
