What does it do?
Check-in is the boarding flow a passenger passes through at the ramp or gate. It takes the ticket or pass, confirms it against the sailing, and records the boarding — the passenger-facing half of what Access control turns into a manifest.
Check-in runs on the same handheld and gate hardware as validation, so a passenger checks in and boards in one step rather than two.

What are its limits?
What it deliberately does not do:
- Check-in checks a boarding right, not an identity — it is not an ID or biometric check.
- Check-in does not resolve a disputed ticket at the gate; it flags it for a person off the queue.
